Internet Safety for Life

We want to keep our children healthy and safe. Children and teens tend to think nothing can hurt them. Maintaining safety is becoming more difficult with the internet. The other day I caught part of a television show or internet video. I do not remember where I saw it, perhaps Dr. Phil.

A 13-year-old girl had been communicating with a "13-year-old boy" from another part of the country on a social internet site for some time. She had revealed

the city where she lived
the name of her school team mascot
what days she played softball after school
the number on her uniform
that she was home alone after school until her parents arrived home from work

The "13-year-old boy" researched online, went to one of her ball games and made eye contact with her. He then followed her home.

You're right. He was an adult male. Thankfully, he was a police officer in the city where the girl lived. He waited until her parents arrived home to go to the house.

Kids do not have adult brains until they are 15 years old. And at age 15 they have baby adult brains. They are unable to reach adult conclusions. Parents need to keep communication lines open with their kids so that they can explain situations to the kids.
