Protecting Children on the Internet

I was just on Dr. Phil's web site. Detective Mike Harris, supervisor of the Child Sex Offender Investigations Unit in Colorado revealed something that is occurring with children. Mike goes to chat rooms pretending to be a young teen. An adult male invited Mike to view his web camera.
Did you get it? That adult is asking a child to watch him live. You know he is up to no good.
That adult is taking advantage of kids, because
Kids tend to be trusting
Kids tend to be curious
Kids tend to be naive
Kids tend to be secretive
Kids get addicted quickly
Kids tend to be alone when on the computer
In other words, kids are vulnerable.
Parental involvement is the only protection children have.
In a somewhat related venue, I was appalled at a segment I saw on television news. In the workplace people are sending and receiving sexually explicit text messages--pornography.
Now I am wondering if child sex perpetrators have begun sending pornographic text messages and photos to children's cell phones.
Parents, Dr. Phil says he is committed to keeping you informed of the new and developing dangers for children. His web site is www.driphil.com. It might be wise to check it regularly.
Keep the communication lines open with your children. You need to be listening to them and educating them about things they are unable to think through themselves.
