Computer Virus Warning

For your computer's health, you may need to pay attention to the warnings about a virus the experts are expecting to be attacking on April Fool's Day this year. The name is Conficker C. Yahoo had it as a front-page story on March 25, 2009.

We hear lots of warnings about many things. We get lots of junk mail that snopes.com says is false. When Yahoo puts it on the front page, they mean business.

This is the third variation of Conficker, hence the "C." It is reported to be very powerful and complicated. However, no one knows exactly what this bug will do on April 1.

Computer people are actively trying to figure out who started Conficker. Microsoft has offered $250,000 reward for finding the person. All they know about the bug is that "all infected computers will come under the control of a master machine" whose location is unknown. Possibilities of what will happen range the full gamut of destroying hard drives to stealing personal information to simply displaying a pop-up.

To avoid being April Fooled, now is the time to update your antivirus software. Also make certain it is operating. It is possible that Conflicker has disabled it. And be sure to install all the updates from Windows.

If you want to utilize Microsoft's free online safety scan, go to the link at the bottom of this link:  http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/128643/beware-conficker-worm-come-april-1/
