Healthy thinking includes an accurate assessment. President Obama said the US in not at war with Islam, just with the extremists.
Let's take a look at the kinds of thinking involved. Have you heard of The Nation of Islam? That is the way that religion refers to themselves.
Islam's scriptures teach that anyone who is not a follower is an Infidel. The choices for infidels are conversion and death.
Islam's scriptures also teach Jihad. Jihad is human sacrifice and the only way to guarantee entry into paradise. Jihad and terrorism are being taught to young children in schools everywhere they can infiltrate.
A small percentage of Muslims have no interest in Jihad. Some of them want to lead a quiet life, make money and accumulate earthly possession. There were Muslims like this in one area of Bulgaria. In recent years radical Muslims have moved into that area and they are enforcing the religious laws. Terrorism is now growing among the once passive people.
The radical element hates Israel, the United States and all non-Muslims. It is very aggressive. They are planting teachers in schools because they know young minds are fertile soil for their ideas. Teaching the next generation is the way Hitler took over Germany.
That radical element has many factions. Groups have planned and executed numerous attacks. Recently India suffered while terrorists killed civilians in a major city. London was terrorized by bombings in the subway. Perhaps we have forgotten 9/11.
Have you noticed that leaders of Muslim countries are not able to stamp out radical groups in their countries? The elected leader of Pakistan is losing power, because the radical groups are gaining influence among the people. Although Abbas is the official leader of Palestine, Hamas got 55 percent of the vote in the last election. How is the US to be "friends" with these countries?
In this country we separate religion from the rest of life. That is not so in the Mid East and much of the rest of the world. I am not saying either type of thinking is wrong. Muslim leaders know how they AND the West think. Western leaders appear to live in fantasy that the whole world thinks the way they do. That seems to create unhealthy assessments and untenable agreements. Healthy relationships are built are honest communication.
Mr. President, how can the US be friends with people who are determined to kill us?
