healthy living, just as unhealthy thinking leads to a downward spiral. A disease does not develop overnight. James Dobson said, "We tend to think of divorce as a blow out, when in reality it is a slow leak." The economic situation did not turn bad overnight. It has been brewing for many years. These are examples of results of unhealthy thinking. Healing the body, whether with medication or natural remedies, happens gradually. Beginning an herbal supplement regime does not mean instant health. In fact, herbal remedies generally require more time to reach a therapeutic level in the body. After major surgery it generally takes about a year to fully recover. People gradually work their way out of depression. Financial health also involves many wise decisions. Amassing wealth is a process over time. Even the wealthy become paupers if they do not continue to make wise financial decisions. From time to time the news reports that formerly wealthy people die bankrupt. Wise financial decisions also apply to government. For the last several years city and state governments in the United States have been struggling financially, with repeated and increasing shortfalls which result in increasing debt. Overt and hidden taxes now exist that no one dreamed of five years ago. In stark contrast to this financial disaster is Mississauga, the sixth largest city in Ontario, Canada. Hazel McCallion has been Mayor of Mississauga for 31years. The city is debt free and has thousands of dollars in reserves. It is financially healthy. In this video eighty-something Mayor McCallion answers the reporter's questions and takes him on a tour of the city. The mayor demonstrates how to use the fitness facilities by playing ice hockey and riding stationery bicycle. Her physical stamina is the result of many years of choosing to be physically fit and active. See if you could keep up with her! And maybe learn a lesson or two in the process. |
